Grade Selection
The grades supplied are 201, 201 (low-nickel J series), 304, 304 DDQ, 304L, 316L and 430. 304 is an 18% chromium, 8% nickel austenitic stainless steel. 304L is its low-carbon alternative: the lower carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation from heat input, for example during welding, and improves resistance against intergranular corrosion.

Surface Finishes
Cold rolled coil comes in 2B, BA, No.4, HL, 8K and 2D, and hot rolled coil in No.1. Which finishes are available depends on the grade; the table above shows each combination. Points to check when you specify a finish:
- 2B: over broad areas and between batches, the 2B finish is not uniform and may not match in appearance.
- BA: the BA finish is common in some grades and thicknesses, but not all.
- State the finish together with the grade, thickness and width in the inquiry.

BA coil is supplied in 304 (0.3–2.0 mm thick, 1219 mm wide), 430 (0.3–1.2 mm, 1219 mm), 201 (low-nickel J series) (0.25–1.0 mm, 1219 mm) and 316L, for which no size is listed. The BA finish is common in some grades and thicknesses, but not all.
304 2B coil is cold rolled, 0.3–3.0 mm thick and 1219 or 1500 mm wide, with a coil ID of 508 or 610 mm and a coil weight of 3–10 t.
304 and 316L are supplied as hot rolled No.1 coil, 3.0–6.0 mm thick and 1219, 1250 or 1500 mm wide, with a coil ID of 508 or 610 mm and a coil weight of 3–10 t.
BS EN 10088-2 finish 2B is cold rolled, heat treated, pickled and skin passed, with a typical Ra of 0.1–0.5 micrometres. Over broad areas and between batches, the 2B finish is not uniform and may not match in appearance.
