China 304L Stainless Steel Coil Supplier
ZIVO STEEL is a steel supplier, and this page covers the one cold-rolled 304L coil route it arranges, in a 2B surface. The low carbon in this grade is specified for what heat does to the material at a weld; it is not a blanket promise about how a finished part behaves in service. A 304L line on a purchase order is also not the same thing as a dual-certified one. What follows is the part of the enquiry that settles both.

Choose 304L for the Fabrication
The reason to name the low-carbon variant rather than the ordinary austenitic grade sits in the heat-affected zone. Outokumpu's published datasheet describes the low-carbon material as one whose lower carbon content minimizes carbide precipitation as a result of heat input, for example during welding, giving improved resistance against intergranular corrosion. Read that for what it says: one mechanism, at one place on the part, under heat. It is not a corrosion rating for every medium the assembly will meet.
The same published text describes the grade as suitable for a wide variety of applications that require good formability and weldability. That describes where the material is used. It does not measure what happens on your press, in your fixture or at your travel speed, and it does not release you from proving the joint the way your own specification requires.
So the first thing worth writing down is the part: whether it is welded, how much heat the joint takes, whether anything is done to the material afterwards, and what the finished assembly sits in. Once that is on paper, the designation follows rather than leads. As a reference point, Outokumpu lists its own Core 304L/4307 against EN designation 1.4307, ASTM type 304L and UNS S30403 — one producer mapping one of its own products across three naming systems, which is not the same as a rule that every coil sold as 304L carries all three names. Which designation your certificate has to show is a requirement you declare, and it is verified against the material actually offered before anyone confirms it.
Designations on the document
Outokumpu maps its own Core 304L/4307 to EN designation 1.4307, ASTM type 304L and UNS S30403. Read that as one producer's mapping for its own product rather than a property every 304L coil carries: say which name your certificate has to show, and it is checked against the material offered.
Forming and joining
Published guidance describes the grade as suitable for applications requiring good formability and weldability. That is a statement about the material, not a trial run on your tooling.
What the grade does not settle
Service life in your medium, any property figure your drawing quotes, and conformity to a product standard all stay open until they are written onto the order. A grade name on its own carries none of them.
Welded work
Where the part is welded and then exposed, the low-carbon choice is about carbide precipitation from the heat of the joint, not about a wider corrosion rating. Describe the joint, the process and what the assembly is exposed to, and that description is what the specification is checked against.
304L Coil Sizes and 2B Surface
The table sets out the single 304L coil route ZIVO STEEL arranges: cold rolled to a 2B surface, 0.3–3.0 mm thick, in the standard widths 1219 and 1500 mm, on 508 or 610 mm inside diameter, at 3–10 t per coil. Those widths are discrete mill widths, not the two ends of a band, so a finished width in between is a slitting request and has to be raised as one rather than read off the table.
Nothing here is carried across from a different stainless line item. A 2B surface is the only surface on this route: a bright annealed, brushed or hot-rolled finish taken from another page does not transfer to it, and neither does a thickness or a width. No product standard is written into the route either, because none was set for it, which makes the standard yours to name on the enquiry rather than ours to assume on your behalf.
Stainless coil is supplied from partner factories. Whether an order runs from material a partner factory is already holding or is produced against your description is settled together with the price, and the lead time is confirmed according to the specification and the quantity rather than quoted in advance of them.
Write the Grade and Document Requirement
A 304L line and a 304/304L dual-certified line are two different requirements, and only the first is settled by the grade name. Dual certification means the mill test certificate declares both designations for the heat that ships. A lot whose chemistry happens to fall inside both ranges is not dual certified by that fact alone — the document has to carry both names — and asking for it on an enquiry does not by itself make it available. State it as a document requirement and it is checked against the lot being offered, then either confirmed in the quotation or not; the same is true of any grade or standard requirement, which needs declared evidence rather than an inference from composition. Whatever is agreed goes into the specification ZIVO sales confirms with you before the order and keeps on file.
Where the welded joint is not what drives the choice, the ordinary 304 coil page covers the wider finish and size question. The two are ordered as separate line items, and neither is swapped for the other without it being agreed in writing on the order.
- Designation on the paperworkSay which designation the documents have to carry. Those names belong to separate systems, and the mapping Outokumpu publishes for its own Core 304L/4307 is a reference rather than a forecast of what your certificate will show; what it does show is confirmed against the material offered.
- Documents with the shipmentEvery shipment travels with a mill test certificate and a packing list, and the certificate supplied is the mill original. Say what your approval process needs beyond that — a particular certificate type, or a test or reported property with its standard, edition, direction and sampling frequency — and it is quoted and confirmed for the order.
- Grade as orderedState whether the line is 304L, or 304/304L with both designations declared on the certificate for the shipped heat. The second is a document requirement quoted against a specific lot, so it belongs on the enquiry rather than in an email once the material is on the water.
- Product standard and editionNo standard is fixed on this route, so name the one your acceptance runs on together with its edition. Say as well which properties have to be reported and how they are tested, because a figure whose thickness and test direction are not declared can be read two ways at goods-in.
- Who agrees the wordingThe description is agreed by ZIVO sales together with you before the order and kept on file, so the certificate that arrives can be read against the words that were actually agreed rather than against an assumption.

Set Surface, Edge and Coil Handling
The surface on this route is 2B, and nothing beyond it is part of the order unless it is named. What is still open is how the incoming strip is judged, how it is protected on the way, and whether the coil physically suits the line it is going onto. All three cost less to settle on the enquiry than at the unloading bay, and the last one is the one most often left until the truck arrives.
Handling is where an otherwise correct order comes apart: the material is right, the documents are right, and then the coil will not go onto the mandrel or the crane will not lift it. Limits of that kind belong on the enquiry stated as limits rather than as preferences, because they are part of what a route is checked against before a price is put against it.
- Coil mass and liftingCoils run 3–10 t. Give the maximum your crane, mandrel and floor accept, any limit on strip feed height, and the packing and marking your unloading bay needs to work with.
- Edge conditionNo edge condition is fixed on this route. Say whether your line needs mill edge or a slit edge, and it is agreed against the width you are ordering before the order is placed.
- Anything beyond the coilSlitting, cut-to-length or any further step is specific to the order. Name what you need and the finished size; whether it can be arranged, and at what price, comes back with the quotation rather than being assumed from the request.
- Coil inside diameterThe route runs on 508 or 610 mm inside diameter. Say which your mandrel takes, because a coil that sits inside the route's range can still sit outside what your uncoiler will accept.
- Protective filmState whether film is required, on which face, and whether it has to survive processing or only transport. Naming it is what gets it priced and checked; whether it can be arranged on the material offered comes back in the quotation rather than following from the request.
- Surface acceptanceDescribe what counts as acceptable on the incoming strip, and where on the part it is judged. Forming and welding both work the surface, so a mark found after those steps is not the same finding as a mark that arrived on the coil.
Agree Inspection Before Shipment
Acceptance holds together when every line of it points at something physical: a heat number, a lot, a measured thickness, a named surface, a document that can be read. Settle before the order which of those is checked, by whom, and against what, because a claim raised later without the lot identification and the measurement behind it cannot be traced back to a heat, however reasonable it sounds.
Part of that is already in place. Before a shipment leaves, ZIVO checks thickness, width, surface, weight, packing and labels; and the shipment travels with a mill test certificate — the mill original — together with a packing list. What sits outside that baseline is whatever else your approval route needs: a named test, a particular certificate type, a reported property. Those are agreed order by order rather than carried as a standing list, and the lead time is confirmed according to the specification and the quantity once the scope is settled. Third-party inspection, SGS or BV for instance, is accepted, and its cost is paid by you.
Condition at arrival
Surface, weight, packing and labels are checked before the coils leave. Record the surface and the protection as they arrive as well, with photographs where your process needs them, so a later conversation about a mark or a dent has two records to work from instead of one.
Dimensional check
Give the thickness and width tolerance your acceptance runs on, either as explicit numerical limits from your drawing or by naming a standard's tolerance class, plus where across the strip it is measured and how many points per coil. Either form can be measured; only an unstated tolerance cannot.
Heat and lot identity
The mill test certificate and the packing list come with the shipment. Say how the material also has to be marked on the coil itself and on the packing, so goods-in can tie a coil to its certificate without a phone call to the other side of the world.
Who inspects, and when
Decide whether inspection happens before shipment, at arrival or both, and who attends. Third-party inspection such as SGS or BV is accepted, with its cost paid by you. Agree the release condition in writing for this order rather than carrying a result forward from a previous one.
Prepare Your 304L Inquiry
A quotation is priced off the description and the quantity, and on this route the finish is already settled. What is left to state is the size — thickness, width, coil inside diameter and coil mass — together with the edge, the quantity and the destination, plus the part of the job that decides whether the material is accepted when it lands. Coil is sold by mass rather than cut to a length, so a length is not something the enquiry has to carry. Sent together, these get a reply that answers the job; sent in pieces, they get a request for more information.
Two things are worth sending even when they look like detail. The first is the constraint your line cannot move — a coil mass, an inside diameter, a finished width — because a route that misses it is not a route you can run. The second is the evidence your goods-in process will look for, since that is what decides whether a shipment is signed for or parked. Both are agreed by ZIVO sales as part of the description before the order, which is a better place for them than an email sent after the material has been made.
- Acceptance evidenceA mill test certificate — the mill original — and a packing list come with the shipment. List anything beyond them: a test, an inspection or a reported property, each with its standard, edition, direction and sampling frequency.
- Grade and document requirementWhether the line is 304L or 304/304L with both designations declared on the certificate, plus the product standard and edition your acceptance runs on. Dual certification is quoted against a specific lot, so it is worth saying before the material exists rather than after.
- Size, quantity and destinationThickness, the standard width you want, the finished width if slitting is needed, the coil inside diameter and coil mass your line takes, the quantity per size as well as in total, and the destination port.
- Surface, edge and packingHow the 2B surface is judged on arrival, whether protective film is required and on which face, the edge condition your line needs, and the packing and marking your unloading bay works with.
- The part and the processWhat is being made, whether it is welded, what heat the joint takes and what the finished assembly is exposed to. That is what the low-carbon choice is measured against.
- Where to send itUse the inquiry form below, or write to henry@zivosteel.com. Price and lead time come back confirmed against the specification and the quantity you send, not as a figure detached from them.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. Dual certification means the mill test certificate declares both designations for the heat that ships, and a lot whose chemistry falls inside both ranges is not dual certified by that fact alone — the evidence has to be on the document. Requesting it does not settle it either: it is a document requirement that gets checked against the lot being offered and is then confirmed in the quotation or not. Say it on the enquiry, where it can still be verified, rather than once the material has been made.
Outokumpu's datasheet describes the lower carbon content as minimizing carbide precipitation as a result of heat input, for example during welding, which gives improved resistance against intergranular corrosion. That is a statement about one mechanism at the weld, not a corrosion rating for the finished part and not a service life in your medium. Send the joint, the welding process and the exposure, and whatever has to be proven is written into the order as a requirement rather than inferred from the grade name.
One combination: cold rolled to a 2B surface, 0.3–3.0 mm thick, in the standard widths 1219 and 1500 mm, coil inside diameter 508 or 610 mm, at 3–10 t per coil. The two widths are discrete mill widths rather than the ends of a range, so a size in between is a slitting request. A bright annealed, brushed or hot-rolled finish listed on another stainless page belongs to that page and is not part of this route.
None is fixed on this route, which is why the enquiry has to name one. Tell us the product standard and the edition your acceptance runs on, the properties you hold the material to, and how and in which direction they are tested. Those are agreed by ZIVO sales as requirements on the order before material is committed. A standard that nobody wrote down is the one that turns into an argument at goods-in.
Each shipment comes with a mill test certificate and a packing list, and the certificate supplied is the mill original. Before the coils leave, ZIVO checks thickness, width, surface, weight, packing and labels. Beyond that baseline, a named test, a particular certificate type or a reported property is agreed order by order — give each one its standard, edition, direction and sampling frequency, and it is confirmed in the quotation. Where the product standard you name already calls for a test, it stays required whether or not it appears as a separate priced line. Third-party inspection such as SGS or BV is accepted, with its cost paid by you.
The route runs in the standard widths 1219 and 1500 mm, and those are discrete mill widths rather than the ends of a band, so an intermediate size is a slitting question and not a width already on the list. Say the finished width your line needs, the edge condition that goes with it and the quantity behind it, and whether it can be arranged is answered against the specification before the order is placed.
