SECC Electro-Galvanized Steel Coil
ZIVO STEEL is a steel supplier, and this page is about coil ordered under the SECC designation: a cold-rolled base carrying an electrolytic zinc coating. The coating belongs to each face on its own: the steps arranged here are 10/10, 20/20, 30/30 and 40/40 g/m² per side, on 0.3–2.5 mm thickness and 800–1700 mm width. Everything below is what your order has to settle before a price can be firm.

Is the Electrolytic Route the Right One?
SECC names cold-rolled sheet that has been zinc coated by electrolysis. The difference to settle early is how the coating is written down: on this route the requirement belongs to each face on its own, while a hot-dip coating figure is commonly written as a single value covering both faces together.
Settle the route on your own facts rather than on a rule of thumb, and settle it before the coating step. Four answers decide it, and all four belong in the enquiry: the grade your drawing or part standard calls for; the operations the strip runs through after it lands, meaning press work, welding or another joining method, cleaning, painting or bonding; the environment the finished part works in and how long it has to hold up there; and the basis on which the coating is to be accepted, including the standard and its edition if your part runs to one. Those answers are what the route and the coating step are quoted against. No service life, exposure rating or forming result is promised on this page.
The rest of the electro-galvanized range, and the other names this product travels under, are set out on the family page.
SECC Coating Steps and Coil Range
Read the coating column one face at a time. Each figure is the zinc mass required on a single surface, so a 20/20 step is 20 g/m² required on one face and 20 g/m² required on the other. It is not a total shared between the two faces, and it does not become one further down the page. The steps arranged under this designation are 10/10, 20/20, 30/30 and 40/40 g/m² per side.
Every step sits on the same coil range: 0.3–2.5 mm thick, 800–1700 mm wide, wound on a 508 or 610 mm inner diameter. The rows here carry no coil mass or order quantity detail, so ask the quotation to confirm the minimum order quantity, the coil mass and the handling limits that go with it. Send the heaviest coil your crane, decoiler and transport can take, together with the tonnage or number of coils you need, and the quotation is written against those limits instead of around them.
The pair is a commercial coating requirement and nothing more. It states what is ordered for each face: it is not a measurement reported from a shipment, it is not an acceptance minimum read off a standard, and it is not a coating class carried across from a hot-dip document. How the zinc is to be measured and reported, and the figures it is accepted against, are agreed with the inspection requirements rather than inferred from the pair.

Write the Requirement for Each Face
An order for this product carries two coating statements, one per surface, even when both surfaces take the same figure. Write the pair the way it is quoted — 10/10, 20/20, 30/30 or 40/40 g/m² per side — and put the unit and the per-face basis on the same line. That one line is what keeps the mill, any third-party inspector and your own receiving desk reading the requirement against a single surface rather than against the pair. The pair says what each face has to be supplied to; how that is checked, and the figures it is checked against, belong with the inspection requirements further down.
Differential faces are worth raising explicitly when only one side is exposed, painted or bonded and the other is hidden. If that is your case, say which face is which in terms the coil itself can be read by: the outer wrap, the underside as the strip leaves the decoiler, or whichever mark your drawing already uses. Then ask whether the split you want can be arranged. The steps set out above are matched pairs, so an unmatched pair is a separate question for the quotation and not something to assume from the list.
What the order should not carry is a coating class borrowed from a hot-dip document, or a code inferred from the pair because the numbers look close. A coating mass and a coating designation are two different statements, and the designation is written only once the standard and its edition have been agreed with you in writing. The coating-designation guide sets out how the different systems count zinc, and why a figure written in one of them cannot be read straight across into another.

Match the Surface to the Next Operation
The zinc layer is the middle of the job, not the end of it. What happens to the strip after it lands decides which surface condition to ask for, and the surface condition has to be decided once rather than operation by operation. List your operations in the order they run and name the treatment you want on the coil; both go to the source as part of the enquiry. No passivation, paint system or corrosion life is promised on this page, and whether a given treatment can be arranged for your step, dimensions and quantity is answered in the quotation.
- Press work and formingSay what the blank is drawn, bent or roll formed into and how severe the deepest draw is. Say also whether your press line needs the strip oiled, and whether the joining, cleaning or bonding line after it can accept oiled material. Where those two requirements pull against each other, say which one governs the order.
- Welding and other joiningName the method: resistance welding, laser welding, clinching, riveting or adhesive bonding. Then state what your process requires the surface to be free of, and which coil treatments it can and cannot accept on arrival, so the treatment is quoted against your process rather than assumed for it.
- Cleaning and pretreatmentState whether you degrease in-house, which chemistry you run and whether the line can handle an oiled coil. If your own pretreatment would strip the treatment you are about to order, say so, and say whether you still want it on the coil.
- Painting and bondingIf the part is painted, powder coated or bonded, give the system by name and say which face it goes on. Whether a coil treatment suits your paint or adhesive system is for your own process trial to confirm; it is not promised here.
- Treatment asked for on the coilChromate, oiled, phosphated and anti-fingerprint are the treatments asked for on this product. Name the one your process needs, together with the grade and step it goes with, and it is put to the source with the rest of the enquiry.
Agree Size, Edge and Coil Handling
The dimensions below belong to this designation and this coating route. A width or a thickness that another galvanized grade is ordered in does not travel across to this enquiry, and neither does a coil mass. Give the figures your part needs, and give the limits your own site works inside.
- Thickness and widthThe range arranged on this route is 0.3–2.5 mm thick and 800–1700 mm wide. Give the nominal thickness your part is designed around and the width you want delivered, and say which of the two is the one you cannot move on.
- Mill width or slit widthSay whether you take the coil at width or want it slit, and for slit material give the finished strip widths, how many strips you need from each cut and what you want done with the side trim.
- Edge conditionState mill edge or slit edge and say what the edge has to be fit for. No default burr limit is applied on this page: if your press or roll former needs one, write the limit and the way it is to be measured into the enquiry so both sit in the quotation.
- Coil inner diameterCoil is wound on a 508 or 610 mm inner diameter. Give the one your decoiler mandrel takes; if your line can run either, say so, because it widens what can be quoted.
- Coil mass and handling limitCoil mass is not fixed for this route. Give the heaviest coil your crane, decoiler, floor and inbound transport can take, and say whether it is the lifting gear or the vehicle that sets the ceiling.
Set Inspection and Documents Before the Order
Everything you intend to check on arrival is agreed while the order is still being written, because afterwards it is a dispute rather than a specification. Set out the tests, the measurement basis and the documents your job requires, and ask the quotation to confirm each of them: which are already covered for your order and which are priced separately. Where the standard your part runs to already calls for a test, that requirement stands with the standard; being priced separately does not make it optional. No equivalence between one system's coating class and another is written into the order. When you compare quotations, compare them against that written list — what each one covers, and what evidence it offers for the coating requirement — rather than against the headline price alone.
- Grade identity and coating pairFix how the material is identified on the documents and on the coil tag: the designation, the coating pair per face, and the same wording in both places so the receiving desk is not asked to interpret two versions of one line.
- How the coating is measuredAgree how the zinc is measured, where on the coil the readings are taken and how many are taken, and that each face is reported on its own. Ask for the method and the sampling you intend to check against, rather than assuming a routine that has not been named.
- Surface appearance and defectsDescribe what counts as a reject on the face that shows: scratches, dents, coating marks, edge damage. An appearance requirement that is written down can be inspected; one that is understood cannot.
- Standard and editionName the standard your part runs to and the edition of it, and say whether the order has to be written to that edition. An older edition and a current one can set different requirements, so the edition is agreed with you before the specification is closed.
- Documents with the lotList the documents you need to travel with the material and who they have to be issued by. Then ask the quotation to identify the document set that accompanies your shipment, and any further test or third-party report your job needs on top of it. Something this page does not name is not thereby unavailable: the quotation is where the set is confirmed for your order.
Prepare Your SECC Inquiry
The form takes four fields: Name, Email, WhatsApp, which is optional, and Your Inquiry. Everything below goes into Your Inquiry in whatever order suits you. The more of it that arrives in the first message, the fewer rounds it takes to reach a firm price.
- Designation and coating pairSECC, and the pair you want per face: 10/10, 20/20, 30/30 or 40/40 g/m². Say if the two faces are not to be the same.
- Coil or slit, and dimensionsWhether you take mill width or slit strip, the thickness and width you need inside the 0.3–2.5 mm and 800–1700 mm range, and the strip schedule if the coil is to be cut.
- Edge, treatment and next operationEdge condition, the surface treatment you want on the coil, and one line on what the strip goes into afterwards so the treatment is quoted against the real operation.
- Quantity, coil limit and inner diameterTonnage or number of coils, the heaviest coil your site can take, and whether your mandrel is 508 or 610 mm. Lead time is confirmed against the specification and the quantity.
- Standard, documents and destinationThe standard and edition your part runs to, the documents you need with the lot, and the destination port or city. A quotation needs the grade, finish, thickness, width, length and quantity, and the specification is agreed by ZIVO sales together with you before the order and kept on file.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. The pair is written per face: the first figure is the requirement on one surface and the second the requirement on the other, so a 20/20 step is 20 g/m² required on each face. The same reading applies to 10/10, 30/30 and 40/40. A coating figure written as one value covering both faces at once, as hot-dip figures commonly are, is a different statement, and a pair from this page is not converted into one of those figures when the order is placed. The pair is also a commercial requirement rather than a measurement taken from a shipment or a minimum read off a standard.
It is a question for the quotation rather than something to read off this page. The steps set out here are matched pairs, so an unmatched pair has to be asked for by name: say which face takes which figure and how that face is identified on the coil. Whether it can be arranged for your dimensions and quantity is answered when the enquiry is priced.
None is written on this page. What is quoted is the coating mass per face and the unit it is counted in. A designation is a statement about a standard and its edition, and it goes on the order only after the standard and edition have been agreed with you. Reading a code across from a hot-dip document is not a shortcut to that agreement.
Both are confirmed by the quotation rather than read off this page. Ask for the minimum order quantity, the coil mass and any handling limits when you send the enquiry: state the heaviest coil your handling equipment and inbound transport can take, together with the tonnage or number of coils you need, and both are answered when the enquiry is priced. Lead time is confirmed the same way, against the specification and the quantity.
By what you tell us about the part, not by a rule applied on this page, and not with a service life quoted here. Describe the exposure the part actually sees — indoors or outdoors, wet or dry, and how long it has to hold up — together with the operations it goes through, the basis on which the coating is to be accepted and any standard and edition your part runs to. The route and the coating step are then quoted against that description.
