DC03 cold-rolled coil

DC03 Cold-Rolled Steel Coil

ZIVO STEEL is a steel supplier, and this page covers the cold-rolled coil route ordered as DC03 for cold-formed parts. A grade letter on its own does not decide whether a blank bends, draws or splits: the delivery condition, the size and surface basis and the acceptance evidence do, and each of them is written onto the order rather than assumed from the grade. What follows is the part of the enquiry worth settling first.

Grades

01 · The forming job

Define the Cold-Forming Requirement

Describe the part before you name the grade. What the blank has to become, in which order the bends and draws happen, how tight the smallest radius is, how many hits the part takes, where the wall thins, where a flange wrinkles, and where the material you run today marks, splits or springs back further than the drawing allows. That description is the only thing a material decision can later be measured against; a grade designation on its own can be measured against nothing.

DC03 appears among the EN 10130 cold-forming steels in the published ArcelorMittal catalogue, which places the grade within a family intended for cold forming. That is a producer classification, and it is background rather than a statement that any DC03 coil suits your press. Whether a given coil forms in a given tool depends on the die, the lubricant, the blank shape, the press and the delivery condition of the strip as much as on the grade letter. Nothing here is a forming guarantee, and no producer property table is restated as a ZIVO commitment.

So write the forming sequence, the critical zones, the finished appearance the part has to carry and the problem you are seeing now into the enquiry, alongside the grade your drawing calls for. If the decision is still open at the level of cold-rolled coil generally rather than DC03 specifically, the cold-rolled coil page is the better place to start, and the two enquiries are handled as separate line items.

02 · The route

The DC03 Supply Route

The table sets out what ZIVO STEEL arranges on this page: DC03 as a cold-rolled coil route, and nothing beyond the grade and the process. The route itself is settled. The dimensional detail, the delivery state and the standard the material is held to are not fixed here, and no thickness band, width band, coil inside diameter or coil weight is published on this page, because those values have not been established for this route. Any figure you need is quoted for your order rather than read off a page.

That also means no conformity is implied. Naming DC03 on an enquiry does not automatically put the material under a particular product standard or its drawing-grade delivery state; the standard, its edition and the properties you hold acceptance to are named by you and agreed before the order. Name the document set that has to travel with the shipment as well, along with any test, inspection or reported property this job needs beyond it. The specification, the description on the documents and that document set are confirmed by ZIVO sales together with you before the order and kept on file, so what arrives can be checked against what was agreed.

Carbon steel coil is supplied from partner factories. Whether an order ships from material a partner factory is already holding or is produced for the order is settled against your specification and quantity at the point the price and the lead time are given, and the lead time is confirmed according to that specification and quantity rather than quoted in advance of it.

03 · Delivery condition

Set the Delivery Condition Before Comparing

Cold-rolled strip reaches you in a state, and the state is what your process feels. Full hard, half hard and annealed describe different material in the same grade, and a description of that kind is not automatically the drawing-grade delivery condition a cold-forming standard defines. Ask each supplier which state they are quoting, in those words, and put your own answer on the enquiry. Two DC03 offers that look alike on paper and differ in delivery state are not comparable, and the difference shows up at the press rather than at goods-in.

  • Properties that matterList the properties your forming depends on, the thickness they apply at and the direction they are taken in. Producer figures published for a producer's own material describe that material, not this route, so none are copied here.
  • Temper rolling and ageingIf your part is sensitive to stretcher strain marks or to how long the coil sits before forming, raise it as a requirement rather than an expectation. Anything of that kind is nominated on the order and confirmed with the specification.
  • Standard and editionName the product standard and the edition your acceptance runs on. No standard is fixed on this route, so a standard nobody wrote down is the one that turns into an argument later; the one you name becomes a requirement on the order once agreed.
  • The state your process needsSay which state your forming runs on and what in the job decides it: the draw depth, the smallest radius, the number of hits the part takes and where the part currently splits or springs back. Where that is still open, say so on the enquiry, and the state is agreed in writing before the order rather than read off the grade letter.
  • The state being quotedAsk whether the offer is annealed, half hard or full hard, and have it written on the offer rather than described in conversation. A quotation that leaves the state open has left the decisive variable open.

04 · Size and surface

Specify Size and Surface in the RFQ

Because no dimensional envelope is published for this route, the size question runs the other way: you state what your line needs and the answer comes back on the quotation. Give exact figures rather than approximate ones, and give the limits your equipment cannot exceed as limits, since those are what a route is checked against before a price is offered.

  • Edge conditionSay whether your blanking or roll-forming line needs mill edge or a slit edge, and whether the edge is visible on the finished part. It is agreed against the width you order rather than assumed from the grade.
  • Coil handling limitsGive the coil inside diameter, the coil mass and the outside diameter your decoiler, crane and floor accept. The actual coil dimensions and mass for your order are confirmed on the quotation, so your limits have to be on the enquiry.
  • Oiling and later stepsState whether the strip is to arrive oiled or dry, and whether anything follows forming: cleaning, welding, painting or coating. A later step changes which incoming condition matters, and it is cheaper to say now than to discover at the line.
  • Surface and cleanlinessDescribe the surface the part has to leave with and what counts as acceptable on the incoming strip. No surface is promised free of marks, and a mark that appears after the press is not automatically a mark that arrived on the coil.
  • Exact thickness and widthState the finished thickness and width the part needs, with the tolerance class or the plus and minus figures your acceptance uses. A quotation needs the grade, finish, thickness, width, length and quantity to be an offer rather than a question.
05 · Against DC01

Compare DC03 with the Intended Alternative

The comparison most cold-forming enquiries actually face is DC03 against DC01, and it is a different purchasing decision rather than a better-or-worse ranking. The two sit at different points in the same cold-forming family, and which one belongs on your order depends on how hard the part is worked, what surface it has to carry afterwards and what your acceptance is written against. Neither is put forward here as a drop-in for the other, and nothing on this page says one of them is interchangeable with the other.

If you are weighing the two, hold the comparison steady on everything except the grade. Same product standard and edition, same delivery state, same thickness and width with the same tolerance basis, same edge and surface requirement, same quantity, same tests and documents, and the same forming job described the same way. A comparison that lets the delivery state drift between the two offers is not comparing grades at all; it is comparing two different materials that happen to share a page.

Ask the question against your own part rather than against a table: does the current material fail, and where, and does the alternative change that on your tool. No saving is promised by moving between the two, and no forming result is guaranteed by either, because that result belongs to your die and your press. The DC01 page sets out the same purchasing questions for that grade, and an enquiry naming both is answered for both.

06 · Evidence at goods-in

Agree Evidence and Receiving Checks

Acceptance is cheaper to settle before the order than after the shipment lands. Name the document set that has to travel with the material, and any test, inspection or reported property this job needs beyond it, each with the standard, the edition, the direction and the sampling frequency behind it. Where the product standard you name already calls for a test, that test stays required whether or not it is priced as a separate line. Decide with your receiving team what they have to be able to check, and the list is confirmed for the order before material is committed.

  • Evidence behind a claimAgree what a rejection has to carry: lot identification, where the defect sits, how it was measured and against which limit. Agreeing that now keeps a later disagreement about material from turning into one about process.
  • Dimensional checksFix which dimensions are checked at goods-in, against which limits and with what measuring method. Limits that are only implied are the ones that get argued about.
  • Lot marking and traceabilityState what has to appear on the coil, the label and the paperwork so a part can be traced back to its lot months later. Nominate it on the order; it is confirmed with the specification.
  • Description on the documentsAgree how the material is described on the order, the packing and the documents: grade, process route and the delivery state. That single description is what the shipment is later measured against, so it is confirmed with the specification rather than left to the paperwork.
  • Tests and reported propertiesName the tests and reported properties this job needs, with the standard, the edition, the direction and how often they are taken. A test the standard you name already calls for stays required; anything beyond it is raised on the enquiry and confirmed for the order.
07 · Prepare the inquiry

Prepare Your DC03 Inquiry

One message carrying the points below can be priced against. Anything you do not yet know is worth marking as open rather than leaving blank, so it comes back as a question on the quotation instead of a wrong assumption on the order.

  • Destination and open pointsThe delivery destination, and the fields you want confirmed on the quotation rather than assumed.
  • Documents, tests and inspectionsThe document set that has to travel with the shipment, and any test, inspection or reported property this job needs beyond it, each with its standard and frequency.
  • Grade, standard and conditionDC03 as a cold-rolled coil, the product standard and edition you hold acceptance to, and the delivery state you need.
  • Handling limitsThe coil inside diameter, coil mass and outside diameter your decoiler and crane accept.
  • Part and forming sequenceWhat the part is, how it is formed, the critical zones and the problem you are seeing now.
  • QuantityThe quantity, split by size where there is more than one, and whether it repeats.
  • Size and tolerancesThickness and width with the tolerance basis, and the length where blanks rather than coil are wanted.
  • Surface, edge and oilingThe surface the part has to carry, the edge your line needs, and whether the strip arrives oiled or dry.
