304 DDQ Stainless Steel Coil
ZIVO STEEL is a steel supplier, and this page covers cold-rolled coil ordered as 304 DDQ in a 2B surface. DDQ stands for deep drawing quality: a mill and trade quality descriptor carried on ordinary 304 chemistry, not a separate ASTM grade and not a forecast for your press. What follows is the part of the order worth writing down, so the quotation that comes back answers the job in front of you.

Specify the Drawing Job First
Describe the part before you name the material. Which way the blank draws, how deep, over what radius, how many hits it takes, where the wall thins, where a flange wrinkles, where the material you are running now splits or picks up a drag mark — that description is the only thing a material choice can be measured against. A quality letter on its own leaves nothing to measure against.
DDQ means deep drawing quality. On 304 it is a mill and trade quality descriptor sitting on ordinary 304 chemistry; it is not a separate ASTM grade with a designation of its own, and it is not a promise that a part which splits today will draw tomorrow. Outokumpu's published forming guidance treats bending, roll bending, spinning, roll forming, press forming and hole flanging as distinct operations, each making its own demands on the material and on the surface of the finished part. Whether a given coil runs in a given die depends on the tool, the lubricant, the blank and the press as much as on the steel, so no deep-drawing description substitutes for a decision made on your own process. A quality descriptor is not an equivalence for a forming result, and it is not read as one here.
So write the forming sequence, the critical zones, the production surface the part has to leave with, and the problem you are seeing now into the enquiry, together with the quality your drawing or part standard actually calls for. Where the part is a bend, a roll-form or a flat panel rather than a draw, ordinary 304 coil is the page to read instead. The two are ordered as separate line items, and there is no automatic substitution between them unless it is agreed in writing on the order.
Confirmed 304 DDQ 2B Coil Combination
The table sets out the single 304 DDQ coil route ZIVO STEEL arranges: cold rolled, 2B surface, 0.3–3.0 mm thick, in the standard widths 1000 and 1219 mm. Those two widths are discrete mill widths rather than the ends of a continuous band, so anything between them is a slitting question and has to be raised as one.
Nothing on this page is carried over from another 304 line item. A thickness, a width or a surface read off a different 304 route does not transfer to this one, and the two are not interchangeable on an order. No product standard is written into this route because none was set for it, and the coil comes in one delivery state: cold rolled to a 2B surface, with anything further named separately.
Documents and testing are settled the same way. Name the document set that has to travel with the shipment, and any test, inspection or reported property this job needs beyond it, each with its standard, edition, direction and sampling frequency. Where the product standard you name already calls for a test, that requirement stands whether or not it is priced as a separate line. ZIVO sales confirms the description and the document set with you before the order and keeps it on file, so what arrives can be checked against what was agreed. Stainless coil is supplied from partner factories: whether an order ships from material a partner factory is already holding or is produced for the order is settled against your specification and quantity when the price and the lead time are given.

Agree Material and Delivery Conditions
This route is quoted without a product standard attached, which means the standard is yours to name rather than ours to assume. Put the standard and its edition on the enquiry, because a property written without an edition, a thickness and a test direction behind it cannot be used for acceptance later. Chemistry and property figures published by a producer for its own material describe that producer's material, not this route, so none are copied onto this page.
- Batch evidenceSay which document set has to travel with the material — heat or lot identification, the property report you want, the document format your goods-in process reads. Name it on the enquiry and it is confirmed with the specification before the order.
- Delivery conditionThis route is supplied cold rolled with a 2B surface. If your process needs any further condition or treatment before forming, name it on the enquiry so it can be confirmed as a written requirement on the order.
- Forming properties and directionList the properties your forming actually depends on, the thickness they apply at and the direction they are taken in. Those become requirements on the order once confirmed, instead of figures quoted back at you.
- Material descriptionState how the material is to be described on the order and on the documents: grade, the deep drawing quality descriptor, process route and surface. That single description is what the shipment is later measured against.
- Standard and editionName the product standard your acceptance runs on and the edition you hold it to. If your drawing only says 304 DDQ, say so plainly and the description that goes on the order is agreed in writing rather than assumed.

Connect the Coil to the Forming Process
A coil enters a process, not a specification sheet. Outokumpu's forming guidance describes press forming, roll forming, spinning, bending and hole flanging as operations with their own demands, and the tooling, the lubrication, the forming sequence and the orientation of the blank all sit inside those demands. ZIVO STEEL supplies the material; it does not run your die, and no statement here should be read as a die trial carried out on your behalf.
What that leaves you to state is the process envelope. Which press and which tooling the coil goes into, what lubricant is used and whether it has to be compatible with a later cleaning or joining step, whether blanks are cut with the rolling direction fixed, and at which step in the sequence the current trouble appears. Where a limit is hard — a maximum blank size, a decoiler width, a strip feed height — say it as a limit rather than as a preference, because those are the constraints a route is checked against before a price is given.
If the wider purchasing checklist for stamping raw material is what you need, the stamping coil page sets it out across grades and forms. It is a purchasing guide, not a claim that any particular part has been run.
Plan the Finished Surface and Coil Handling
The surface on this route is 2B and nothing else. What is still open is how the surface is judged after forming and how the coil physically reaches your line, and both are cheaper to settle now than to argue about at goods-in. Drawing works the surface, so a mark that appears after the press is not automatically a mark that arrived on the coil.
- Allowable marksDescribe what counts as acceptable on the incoming strip and what does not, and where on the part it is judged. No treatment is promised that cannot leave a mark, and no surface is promised free of them.
- Coil handling limitsThe table gives the coil inside diameter and coil weight this route runs to. State the limits your decoiler, crane and floor actually accept, because a coil inside the route's envelope can still be outside your line's.
- Edge conditionNo edge condition is fixed on this route. Say whether the blank line needs mill edge or a slit edge, and it is confirmed against the width you are ordering before the order is placed.
- Later polishing or finishingIf the formed part is polished, brushed or coated afterwards, say so. A step that follows forming changes which incoming marks matter, and it is worth stating before the appearance requirement is agreed.
- Protective filmState whether film is required, on which face, and whether it has to survive forming or only transport. Say it on the enquiry so it is confirmed as a written requirement on the order.
Set Sample and Batch Acceptance
Acceptance is where a deep drawing order either holds together or falls apart, because the question that decides it — did the material form — is answered on your tooling and not on a certificate. DDQ is a quality descriptor, not a guarantee of a forming result. So settle before the order whether a sample or a production trial is required at all, who conducts it, on which tooling and press, and what result releases the rest of the quantity. Settle too what evidence a rejection has to be supported by, because a claim raised without the lot identification, the location on the part and the measurement behind it cannot be traced back to a heat. A trial result is agreed for the order in front of you; it is not promised to repeat across a different tool, a different press or a different producing mill.
- Dimensional and surface limitsFix the thickness, width and surface limits the shipment is judged against, and the point in your process where they are checked. Limits that are only implied are the ones that get argued.
- Lot and heat recordsState which identification has to appear on the coil, the packing and the documents so a part can be walked back to its heat months later. Nominate it on the order; it is confirmed with the specification.
- Agreed property reportName the properties to be reported, the standard and edition behind them and the sampling frequency. That list is confirmed for the order before material is committed, and a test the standard you name already requires stays required.
- Rejection evidenceAgree what a claim must carry: lot identification, where on the part the defect sits, how it was measured and against which limit. Agreeing the evidence now is what keeps a later disagreement about material from becoming a disagreement about process.
- Sample or production trialSay whether a sample coil or a trial run is required before the balance ships, who conducts it and on which tooling, and what outcome releases the rest. Agree that with ZIVO sales in writing for this order rather than carrying a result forward from another one.
Prepare Your DDQ Inquiry
One message with the points below in it is enough to be priced against. With them the reply can come back as an offer rather than a list of questions, since the lead time is confirmed according to the specification and the quantity.
- Appearance requirementWhat the surface has to look like after forming, plus film and edge if either is needed.
- Coil handling limitsThe coil inside diameter and coil weight your decoiler and crane accept.
- Requested documentsThe document set that has to travel with the shipment, and any test, inspection or reported property this job needs beyond it, each with its standard and frequency.
- Material description304 DDQ, cold rolled, 2B, written the way it is to appear on the order and the documents.
- Part and forming sequenceThe part, how it is drawn, the critical zones and the problem you are seeing now.
- Size and quantityThickness, width and the quantity, with the tonnage split by size if there is more than one.
- Standard and conditionThe product standard and edition your acceptance runs on, and any condition beyond cold rolled 2B.
- Trial and acceptanceWhether a sample or trial is required, who conducts it, and the limits the shipment is judged against.
Frequently Asked Questions
No. DDQ is a deep drawing quality descriptor applied to ordinary 304 chemistry by the mill and the trade, not a distinct ASTM grade with its own designation. That is why the order carries the full description — grade, quality descriptor, process route and surface — rather than a three-digit number on its own. Write it out the way it should appear on the documents and it is confirmed with ZIVO sales before the order.
It cannot be promised. Published forming guidance describes deep drawing as depending on the material together with the tooling, the lubrication, the forming sequence and the blank, so a quality descriptor describes suitability and not an outcome on your press. Send the forming sequence and the point where the split appears, and where the answer has to be proven, agree with ZIVO sales whether a trial is run for that order, who conducts it and on which tooling.
No standard is fixed on this route, so the enquiry has to name one. Tell us the product standard and the edition your acceptance runs on, together with the properties you hold the material to, and those are confirmed by ZIVO sales as requirements on the order before material is committed. A standard nobody wrote down is the one that turns into an argument at goods-in.
The route runs in the standard widths 1000 and 1219 mm, which are discrete widths rather than the ends of a range, so a width in between is a slitting question rather than a size already on the list. Say the finished width your blank line needs and the quantity behind it, and whether it can be arranged is answered against the specification before the order.
Tell us what your goods-in process needs and it is confirmed before the order. Name the document set that has to travel with the shipment, and any test, inspection or reported property this job requires beyond it, each with its standard, edition, direction and sampling frequency. Where the product standard you name already calls for a test, that test stays required whether or not it is priced as a separate line, and ZIVO sales confirms the whole list for the order before material is committed. Stainless coil is supplied from partner factories, so whether the order ships from material already held or is produced for you is confirmed along with the lead time when the price is given.
