Confirm SS400 in Coil Form
SS400 names a grade, not a product. The same designation is ordered as plate, as structural sections and as hot rolled coil, and those are separate line items with different tolerances, different handling and different prices behind them. Coil arrives wound, to be uncoiled, levelled and cut on your line; plate arrives already cut to size. An enquiry that names only the grade leaves that choice to whoever is quoting, which is how two replies come back that cannot be set side by side.
JIS G 3101:2024 covers, in its own words, hot rolled steels used for general structures such as bridges, ships and rolling stock, together with hot extruded sections. Which product forms a particular grade may be ordered in sits in the standard's product-form clause, so name the form you need rather than leaving it to be read out of the grade.

Where another standard's designation appears beside SS400, send both. Which one governs acceptance is written down before the order.
What the drawing calls for
Where the drawing names SS400 for a fabricated structure, say what is made from it and how it is cut and joined. That is what the delivered form and the surface route are chosen against.
Coil, plate or section
Say which of the three you are buying. A coil order carries coil tolerances, coil handling and a coil price, and none of those transfer from a plate enquiry; the grade name on its own does not choose between them.

A grade name with no edition behind it is an argument waiting to happen. JIS G 3101:2024 replaced the 2022 edition, and an approval route written earlier may still point at the older text. Name the standard and edition your acceptance runs on, say which state the coil has to arrive in, and both are verified against the lot proposed for your order before anything is committed.

Choose Surface and Processing Inputs
Three surface routes are ordered on hot rolled coil: as rolled with mill scale, pickled, and pickled and oiled. Which one suits follows from what happens next, since scale has to come off before most forming and coating work, and oil has to come off before some of it. Say what the coil goes into and the route picks itself.
Handling and further work
Give the coil inside diameter and coil mass your uncoiler, crane and floor accept, and say whether slitting or cut-to-length is needed. Each is priced and confirmed for the order rather than assumed from the enquiry.
Surface route
Name the route you want and the step it feeds. Whether it can be arranged on the material offered comes back in the quotation rather than following from the request.
Size, tolerance and edge
Send the thickness and width your line needs, the tolerance you hold them to — either explicit limits off the drawing or an agreed standard class — and the edge condition. Written down in either form, they can be measured.
Check the Certificate Against the Order
Every shipment travels with a mill test certificate and a packing list, and the certificate supplied is the mill original. Before the coils leave, ZIVO checks thickness, width, surface, weight, packing and labels. What that leaves you to settle is what the certificate has to prove for your project, against one rule: it has to identify the material that actually shipped, not the grade in general.
- Condition as deliveredThe delivery state and surface route shown should match what was ordered. Record what arrives as well, so a later conversation about scale or a mark has two records to work from instead of one.
- Extra tests and certificate typeA particular certificate type, or a test or reported property beyond that, is agreed order by order with its standard, edition, direction and sampling frequency. Third-party inspection such as SGS or BV is accepted, with its cost paid by you.
- Grade, standard and formThe certificate should carry the grade, the standard and edition it is issued against, and the product form. One that names a grade without saying what form it was made in cannot close out a coil delivery.
- Heat and lot identityHeat or lot numbers on the certificate have to tie back to the marking on the coils and to the packing list. Say how the coils must be marked and it is agreed before the order.
