China S235JR Hot Rolled Steel Coil Supplier
ZIVO STEEL is a steel supplier, and this page covers S235JR ordered as hot rolled coil. Three things travel under that one designation — the steel name, the JR quality class and the form it is delivered in — and an order that settles only the first of them is not yet a specification. What follows is what to write down.
S235JR
Grades
Translate the S235JR Drawing Requirement
A structural drawing calling for S235JR has named a steel and a quality class. It has not yet said which product form is being bought, which edition of the standard the acceptance runs on, or what condition the material arrives in — and on a coil order those three decide whether an offer can be compared with anything.
EN 10025-2:2019 sets out how the designation is assembled. Clause 4.2 links the steel name, the quality and the applicable delivery-condition suffix, and clause 5.1 lists what the order itself has to carry: quantity, product form and dimensional standard, dimensions, the steel designation, the tests and options selected, and the type of inspection document. Read as a list of order inputs rather than as a rulebook, that is a fair description of an enquiry somebody can actually price.
The form you are buying
The standard covers hot-rolled non-alloy structural flat and long products, and excludes structural hollow sections and tubes. Say on the order that coil is what you are buying, because tolerances, handling and price follow the form rather than the grade.
Steel name and quality class
S235JR names the steel together with its quality class. Clause 4.1.2 lists JR, J0 and J2 as the S235 qualities and separates them by their specified impact-energy requirements; which one your project accepts is yours to state.
Where the wider reference sits
General technical reference for the grade has its own page. This one is about turning the requirement into an order that can be quoted now and checked later against what arrives.
S235JR Hot-Rolled Coil from ZIVO
The table records the route ZIVO STEEL arranges for this grade: S235JR, hot rolled, supplied as coil. What it does not do is stand in for a conformity statement. Thickness, width, coil inside diameter, coil mass and the inspection basis are settled for each order against material that can actually be offered, and whether a given lot answers the standard and edition you name is verified for that lot rather than carried over from the route.
Carbon steel coil is supplied from partner factories: an order runs from partner-factory stock where suitable stock is held, and from production where it is not. Which of the two applies comes back with the lead time, once the specification and the quantity are known.
| Grade | Process |

Fix Delivery Condition and Project Evidence
Delivery condition is an order input, not a default. Clause 6.3 separates delivery-condition choices by product form, so a condition that suits a plate order is not automatically the one a coil line should be given. Name the edition your acceptance runs on, the condition the job needs and the reports your project has to hold, and each is checked against the lot being offered.
- Delivery conditionState the condition the coil has to arrive in. It is agreed for the order and confirmed in the quotation; it does not follow from the grade letter.
- Edition and full designationGive the standard and the edition your acceptance runs on, written as the full designation rather than the steel name on its own.
- Quality-class evidenceSay what the certificate has to show for the quality class your project approved, and what has to be tested to show it. Composition on its own does not settle a quality class.
- Project reportsList the reports the approval depends on, each with its standard, edition, direction and sampling frequency, so the schedule is priced with the order rather than after it.

Review Alternatives Before Accepting Them
An enquiry for this grade often comes back with a different designation offered instead; Q235B and SS400 turn up most often. A cross-standard comparison is a reading aid, not permission to change what the drawing specified. No substitution is made here on the strength of a table, and none is treated as automatic: where an alternative is on the table, the party carrying the project approval assesses the actual proposal against the actual lot, and the decision is written down before the order.
What a comparison is for
It sets two designations side by side so the differences are visible. It does not say they may be swapped on your project, and it is not written as an approval.
Record what is accepted
Where an alternative is accepted, put it on the order with the standard and edition it was accepted against. An undocumented change is the one that surfaces at handover.
Who decides
Whoever carries the project approval decides, on the proposal in front of them. A supplier putting an alternative forward is making an offer, not granting a clearance.
Define Surface, Dimensions and Receiving Checks
Surface, size and what happens at goods-in are separate order decisions. Every shipment travels with a mill test certificate and a packing list, and the certificate supplied is the mill original; before the coils leave, ZIVO checks thickness, width, surface, weight, packing and labels. Around that baseline, the enquiry says what your own acceptance needs.
- Edge and handlingSay whether a slit edge is needed, and give the coil inside diameter and mass your line takes. Edge condition and any further processing are priced and confirmed for the order.
- Tie the paperwork to the lotHeat or lot numbers on the certificate have to match the coil marking and the packing list. Extra tests and a specific certificate type are agreed per order; third-party inspection such as SGS or BV is accepted, with its cost paid by you.
- Surface routeAs rolled with mill scale, pickled, or pickled and oiled. Name the one the job needs; whether it can be arranged on the material offered is answered in the quotation.
- Dimensions and toleranceSend the thickness and width required and the tolerance behind them, either as explicit limits from the drawing or as an agreed standard class. Either one is measurable once it is written down.
Prepare Your S235JR Inquiry
A quotation is priced off the description and the quantity, and clause 5.1 is a workable template for the description: quantity, product form and dimensional standard, dimensions, the steel designation, the tests and options you select, and the inspection document type.
- Tests and documentsThe inspection document type, the test schedule your project needs, and whether third-party inspection is planned. Write to henry@zivosteel.com or use the form below.
- Grade, edition, conditionS235JR with the standard edition your acceptance runs on, and the delivery condition required.
- Project and drawingWhat is being built, and which approval the material has to satisfy.
- Quantity and destinationQuantity per size and in total, plus the destination port.
- Form, size and edgeCoil, with thickness, width, tolerance, slit edge if needed, and the coil handling limits your line accepts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Naming the designation states a requirement; it does not by itself certify the material. The edition you name and the quality class your project approved are verified against the lot being offered, and what the certificate has to show is agreed before the order. Say what your approval depends on and it is checked rather than assumed.
Clause 4.1.2 lists JR, J0 and J2 as the S235 qualities and distinguishes them by their specified impact-energy requirements. Which one applies is a project decision rather than something to take off a supplier's list, so name the quality on the enquiry and it is carried through to the order and the certificate.
That is not a swap made here on the strength of a comparison. Where an alternative is offered, the party holding the project approval assesses the actual proposal, and if it is accepted it goes onto the order with the standard and edition it was accepted against. Nothing is changed quietly.
Sizes are not set out as a band for this grade; what can be offered depends on the material available for the order in front of us. The surface is ordered as rolled with mill scale, pickled, or pickled and oiled. Send the thickness, width, tolerance, edge and handling limits your line needs with the quantity, and they are checked against what can be supplied.
Each shipment carries a mill test certificate — the mill original — and a packing list, and thickness, width, surface, weight, packing and labels are checked before the coils leave. The inspection document type, any additional test and any reported property your project needs are agreed order by order, each with its standard, edition, direction and sampling frequency.
