Prepainted Steel Coating Inspection: Order Evidence
Turn metallic coating and organic-film requirements into order-specific evidence and test requests.
Separate the two coatings
Separate the metal coating from the organic paint before writing an inspection plan. A metallic-coating designation concerns the coated substrate; dry-film thickness concerns paint layers. They need different records and methods. Start with the named substrate standard, the side-by-side paint specification and the product form that will actually be received.
State the standard and edition
Name the substrate standard and its edition, metallic-coating designation and paint specification on separate order lines. Ask which document reports each requirement and how the lot is identified. A standard title identifies a possible test scope; it does not confirm that every test is included in a partner's offer. Confirm the actual edition and sampling rule with the supplier before finalizing acceptance.
Substrate standard
State the required substrate standard and how it will be verified for this order.
Coating designation
State the required coating designation and how it will be verified for this order.
Film thickness method
State the required film thickness method and how it will be verified for this order.
Adhesion/flexibility
State the required adhesion/flexibility and how it will be verified for this order.
Select applicable test methods
Forming can stress the paint. If flexibility or adhesion matters, name the bend or other agreed test method, direction, temperature and acceptance rule under the applicable standard. For a profiled sheet, confirm whether the test record is from the parent coil or the finished profile. Do not write a pass criterion from a generic vendor table into an order without checking its scope.
- Adhesion/flexibilityState the required adhesion/flexibility and how it will be verified for this order.
- SamplingState the required sampling and how it will be verified for this order.
- Certificate identityState the required certificate identity and how it will be verified for this order.
Agree sampling and records
Agree sample location, number of specimens, measurement method, reported unit and who witnesses each test where applicable. For formed sheets, distinguish tests on the parent coil from checks on the finished profile. Preserve the approved color sample and link laboratory or mill records to the same lot and package labels. A generic certificate without that connection is weak receipt evidence.
Check shipment evidence
At receipt, match lot IDs, sample records, coating declarations, dimensions, surface appearance and packaging to the purchase order. Photograph damage before moving bundles and preserve the label trail. ZIVO can request order-specific test and document evidence from its partner supplier, but this guide does not promise a universal test suite.
